The Power of Play in Healing and Learning

We believe that play is not just fun it’s essential for every child’s growth, healing, and development. That’s why our Play Intervention is at the heart of our work with children in refugee and host communities.

Many children affected by conflict and displacement carry emotional stress and fear. Play creates a safe space where they can feel free, express emotions, build friendships, and begin to heal. Through structured and guided play sessions including games, storytelling, role play, sports, and creative activities children learn important life skills like teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and emotional control.

Our trained youth facilitators guide play in ways that promote safety, inclusion, and confidence-building. The activities are simple, joyful, and tailored to each age group, helping children reconnect with a sense of normalcy and hope.

The results are powerful:
Children become more active, more engaged in school, and better at managing emotions. They feel seen, supported, and ready to take part in learning and community life again.

At Similar Ground, we play with purpose because every child deserves to feel safe, strong, and free to be a child.
