Safeguarding The safety and wellbeing of children, youth, and community members are at the heart of Similar Ground’s work. We are committed to creating safe and supportive spaces for everyone participating in our programs, particularly those affected by displacement, conflict, or other vulnerabilities. Safeguarding informs every aspect of our operations. As we work daily with children and young people who may be at risk of abuse, exploitation, or harm, we embed safeguarding as a core principle of our organizational culture to protect the rights and dignity of participants and ensure their wellbeing. Similar Ground promotes a culture of safeguarding through:
- A dedicated safeguarding team responsible for oversight and support,
- Clear safeguarding policies and codes of conduct for all staff, volunteers, and facilitators,
- Regular training and resources on safeguarding and child protection,
- Screening processes for staff, facilitators, and volunteers, including reference and background checks, to ensure suitability for working with children and vulnerable populations.
Anti-Corruption
Similar Ground is committed to integrity, accountability, and transparency in all aspects of our work. We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to bribery, corruption, and unethical behavior. Our policies and codes of conduct promote honesty and fairness throughout the organization, and mechanisms are in place for reporting concerns or violations safely and confidentially.
Bullying and Harassment
We are committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment for all staff, volunteers, and partners. Everyone working with Similar Ground has the right to be protected from bullying, harassment, or any form of intimidation.
Our anti-bullying and harassment policies outline the standards of behavior expected, and provide clear procedures for handling incidents or allegations. These policies apply to all team members, facilitators, volunteers, and partner staff engaged in program activities. Partners are expected to uphold these principles through formal agreements or equivalent policies.
Code of Conduct
All staff, facilitators, volunteers, and associates understand that our work involves engaging with children and communities affected by trauma, displacement, or conflict. Similar Ground maintains zero tolerance for abuse, harassment, or discrimination.
Our code of conduct provides clear guidance on expected behaviors, emphasizing respect, fairness, and the protection of the dignity and rights of every individual. Upholding these standards ensures that our work remains safe, ethical, and effective for the communities we serve.
